Dr. Jorge J. Rivera joined Advanced Eye Centers in November 2012. He is an
experienced surgeon who is highly qualified to offer his patients an exceptional
level of care. Dr. Rivera is a board certified ophthalmologist, fellowship trained
in Cornea/Refractive, and Glaucoma. In addition, he is certified to perform laser
vision correction using the latest VISX and Intralase technology.
Dr. Rivera graduated magna cum laude with a degree in General Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico. He received his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico Medical School where he graduated with honors.
Following an internship in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of Saint Raphael,
Yale University School of Medicine, Dr. Rivera completed his residency training
in Ophthalmology at New England Eye Center, Tufts University School of
Medicine. He then completed subspecialty training in Glaucoma at New England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston.
After several years in private practice as a Glaucoma specialist, Dr. Rivera was
selected for a Cornea, External Diseases, and Refractive surgery fellowship at
Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes Jewish Hospital.
Dr. Rivera is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Brown
University School of Medicine, where he has an active role in resident education.
Dr. Rivera is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the
American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Massachusetts
Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, the Massachusetts Medical Society,
the American Medical Association, and the Chandler-Grant Society, a group of
internationally recognized glaucoma specialists.
Dr. Rivera resides in Tiverton, RI, with his wife and three children. He practices in our Dartmouth office.
All offices will be closed Saturday, September 1st and Monday September 3rd.
We will open for normal office hours on Tuesday September 4th.
