Dr. Murphy graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts and majored in Biology. His Doctor of Optometry degree was awarded by New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. He also completed an Optometry residency in ocular disease at Brockton VA Medical Center.
Dr. Murphy has been in practice for 8 years and enjoys examining patients of all ages. He has interest in diagnosis and management of ocular surface conditions and diagnosis or retinal disease. He also has experience fitting many types of contact lenses including multifocal, toric and gas permeable contact lenses.
Dr. Murphy was born in Brockton and grew up in Duxbury, Massachusetts. He currently lives on the South Shore with his wife and two daughters. He spends his time following the Boston sports teams, is involved in his local church and enjoys vacationing with his family.
Dr. Marques graduated from Stonehill College in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She went on to receive her Doctorate of Optometry in 19992 from the New England College of Optometry. In 1987 and 1988 she completed clinical externships in Boston and Atlanta, GA. She is licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Optometry and is TPA (therapeutic pharmaceutical agents) certified.
She specializes in medical Optometry including routine eye examinations, post operative care, and contact lens fittings.
She has been practicing in Fall River and Taunton since 1992 and will continue to see patients in our Fall River and Taunton Offices.
Dr. Marques is fluent in Portuguese and lives in Fall River with her husband and daughter.

Dr. DeFreitas is a graduate of Providence College where he received his a B.A. degree in 1990. He continued his graduate education at the The New England College of Optometry where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1994. Dr. DeFreitas specializes in complete family eye care, including routine vision exams, contact lens services, therapeutic intervention including the treatment of glaucoma and the pre- and post-operative co-management of cataract and refractive surgery patients. He is licensed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts with full therapeutic privileges and is a member of the Rhode Island and American Optometric Association.
Dr DeFreitas is a native Rhode Islander and is a first generation American of immigrant parents from the island of Faial Azores. He now resides in Westport with his wife and daughter. Dr. DeFreitas is also fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.
Rodney L. Immerman, O.D. graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Visual Science in 1980 from Illinois College of Optometry, he also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Biology, cum laude, in 1978 from Boston University. He routinely evaluates patients with ARMD, DMD, Stargardt’s, macular holes, uveitis, giant tears, PDR, ROP, RP and high myopia. Dr. Immerman has been a part of the AdvancedEye Centers, Inc. team specializing in low vision since February 15, 2007. Dr. Immerman is a consultant to The Massachusetts Commission of the Blind and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission.
Kathryn M. Arruda, O.D. graduated from Boston University in 1984 with a B.S. in Bio-Medical Engineering then continued on to New England College of Optometry where she received her Doctorate of Optometry in 1988. She is licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Optometry and is TPA (therapeutic pharmaceutical agents) certified.
Dr. Arruda served in the United States Navy from 1990-1994 where she performed a wide range of optometric services including general exams and contact lens care, as well as utilizing a full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic drug therapies on active duty and retired military personnel and their dependents. She has been practicing optometry since 1988.
Dr. Arruda resides in Mansfield, MA with her husband, Joseph Tarantino, O.D., and their two children.
Advanced Eye Centers is pleased to announce that Dr. Alyse Richard, M.D., a highly trained ophthalmologist and medical retina specialist, has joined our clinical team. Dr. Richard brings advanced expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases, along with a warm and patient-centered approach to care.
Dr. Richard completed her medical education at Albany Medical College and went on to train at two renowned institutions, the Flaum Eye Institute at the University of Rochester and the New England Eye Center at Tufts Medical Center, where she developed extensive experience in managing complex retinal conditions. Her clinical interests include macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal tears, and other disorders that can significantly impact vision and quality of life.
In addition to her retina specialization, Dr. Richard provides comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages, offering services ranging from routine exams to cataract evaluation and management. She is committed to helping individuals protect their vision through early detection, personalized treatment planning, and ongoing patient education.
Dr. Richard is also an active member of multiple respected professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the International Society of Medical Retina Specialists, Women in Retina, and the New England Ophthalmological Society.
